School Mathematics and the preparation of mathematics teachers.

For decades, we have made major mistakes in how we prepare teachers. We have consistently ignored their needs and have made it impossible for them to do their job. Can we not finally do the right thing by doing the hard work of teaching them correct school mathematics? This is an enormous task, but if we mathematicians don’t do it, who will?
